Maintenance / Landscape Assistant

Smith Fork Ranch is an upscale guest ranch located in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The ranch specializes in fine dining, horseback riding, fly fishing, and excellent service. Smith Fork Ranch prides itself on having an extensive wine cellar, luxurious guest accommodations in the rustic style, world class small stream fly fishing, miles upon miles of riding trails, and a very active children’s program. With a capacity of 26-28 guests per week and a staff of approximately 27, SFR employs energetic, hardworking and flexible staff members who understand the main goal is to give guests a wonderful and memorable vacation. SFR employees are team players that are extremely versatile and open to learning.

Job description:

Maintenance of building and grounds are of key importance at Smith Fork Ranch. SFR must maintain a 300 acre ranch and keep it functioning at the highest level for our upscale guests. To keep the ranch looking beautiful entails weed whacking, pulling of weeds, watering plants, mowing, mulching, raking, etc. The maintenance / landscape assistant will report directly to SFR’s ranch foreman. Each day will be filled with new and interesting challenges; there is never a dull moment in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. SFR has a large irrigation system that needs attention daily, a big responsibility but one that is very rewarding as our guests love to drive through a beautiful pasture when entering the ranch. Days are long and physically demanding, but filled with interesting challenges and guest interactions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist the Ranch Foreman with maintenance of ranch buildings and facilities
  • Help maintain, repair and clean ranch vehicles as needed
  • Maintain lawn and sprinkler system including mowing, weeding, fertilizing, weed whacking, racking, watering, etc.
  • Operate a variety of ranch equipment as needed (i.e. manure spreader, skid steer, ranch truck, gator, etc.)
  • Participate in weekly ranch events such as staff/guest BBQ, campfires, Saturday night cookout, dances, and other special ranch events
  • Take part in evening dishwashing “rotation” (among all staff, about twice monthly)
  • Help maintain SFR’s irrigation system for our pastures
  • Assist with any ranch chore or activity as needed or directed such as wood cutting, lawn care, housekeeping, washing vehicles, etc.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Knowledge and experience working within maintenance / landscaping within a ranch setting
  • Valid drivers license
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Able to take initiative – seeing what needs to be done and doing it
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds
  • Musical talents a plus
  • Ability to work 6 days a week
  • Must have CPR & First Aid certification
  • Maintain the highest level of safety while with guests, staff, and self
  • Must present a good western image in dress and behavior
  • Must present yourself according to SFR standards and wear proper uniform including hat, long sleeve shirt, jeans, and appropriate shoes
  • Must be available for employment from May 15 – August 30
