Our friendly staff are experts in their fields,…. riding, fishing, farming, ranch life and exploring the wilderness, and have a lifelong passion to share their knowledge.
Our head wrangler, is a teacher of horseback riding skills; Our ranch foreman and head guide, knows every river and mountain drainage in western Colorado, and is eager to share his knowledge with our guests. Our gardener loves to give adults and children alike the experience of planting and actually picking fresh vegetables (for the evening dinner) from our organic farmstead right here on the ranch.
Many people send their kids away to camp to have successful experiences. But here your kids can share successful experiences with you as a family.
Riding up into the high mountains and meadows on old Indian trails that few others know about; Helping a neighboring rancher (8 miles away) move his cattle across the river valley; Amazing white-water river rafting; Learning how to blow your own glass art piece from one of the outstanding glass artisans in America (who 15 years ago set up his studio right down the road in the tiny village of Crawford); Taking a brisk swim in our authentic swimming “hole”, a spring-fed pond, complete with dock and inner tubes; Visiting a local winemaker at his vineyard to taste his special wine fresh out of the cask; Helping our chef, Seth, gather fresh-laid eggs from our chickens and harvest vegetables from our organic farmstead to prepare your next meal; Sleeping in a cabin with the most comfortable beds you can imagine, fresh mountain air breezing through the open windows.
For younger children, panning for gold in the stream, learning to ride horses and care for them, playing in a tree house built by our fun-loving staff, developing new skills such as archery, or simply catching frogs in a shallow spot in the creek, it’s all part of the Smith Fork Ranch experience.
