The Salmon Fly Hatch truly is the epitome of dry fly fishing in America. Please join us at Smith Fork Ranch to experience first hand this amazing natural phenomenon. Enormous trout gorge themselves on these tasty morsels for about two weeks every year. If you are an experienced fly fisherman you know first hand the heart pounding thrill of being in the middle of a full on hatch. If you aspire to learn fly fishing and would like to experience spine tingling action on a pond full of trophy trout, or float down the Gunnison gorge casting to frenzied trout you absolutely need to be here!
Fish on our 3.5 miles of private water with one of SFR’s expert fishing guides, or take an all day guided fly fishing excursion into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, fishing legendary Gold Medal waters during fly fishing’s most renowned hatch.
This year the predicted dates of the Salmon Fly Hatch are June 22 to July 15 and coincide with SFR’s Fourth of July week and a very special concert given by our good friend, neighbor and avid angler himself, Mr. Joe Cocker!

“Joe Cocker at Home”, a benefit concert presented by Cocker Kid’s Foundation with special guests the subdudes. Smith Fork Ranch will have available for our guests VIP tickets at a cost of $100.00 each, entitling the holder to front and center seating and a special after show reception. This is a rare opportunity to see Joe locally! SFR will provide transportation to and from the concert. Please reserve your VIP tickets ASAP. General admission tickets will also be available.
SFR’s Independence Day Festivities
June 29-July 6
The 4th of July at SFR will be a day of non-stop fun. Join our staff for an old fashioned, rip roarin’ good time with live music, games, prizes, as well as all the watermelon and corn on the cob you can eat. Have your face painted, compete for prizes in our casting contest, sack race, horseshoe and Frisbee golf tournaments. The brave may even compete in a Wrangler rodeo!
