Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Given National Park status in 1999, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is one of the greatest natural treasures of the Rocky Mountains, home to sheer cliffs (some as tall as 2,000 feet), awe-inspiring scenery, and an abundance of outdoor activities, including hiking, wildlife viewing, rock climbing, rafting and more. Just a short drive from Smith Fork Ranch, it’s an essential part of any trip to this part of the world.

North Fork Valley

Experience an authentic slice of rural Americana in the mountain towns that surround Smith Fork Ranch, whether it’s parades, local festivals, or an honest-to-goodness Western rodeo. The North Fork Valley is also home to an array of local artists and craftsmen who are eager to welcome you into their studios and galleries. Learn to blow glass or make pottery from true Colorado masters.

Wineries & Vineyards, Organic Farms & Orchards

We’re lucky. Our backyard at Smith Fork Ranch is filled with some of Colorado’s finest makers of wine and growers of fresh fruits and vegetables – and we encourage you to do a little “agri-tourism” while you’re visiting. Pay a visit to Paonia and enjoy the town’s famous cherries and peaches, sip a few samples from the North Fork Valley’s esteemed wineries, or watch cowboys roping steer at a cattle ranch. It’s all just minutes away.
